Leap Motion: Its going to change the future of computing.

I know this is a none scrabble related post but give me a sec to show you.

Have you heard of Leap Motion yet? If you haven't get ready to hold on to your hats. This thing is going to chance the future. Its like Mission Impossible waving hands in front of screens is coming true.

This device is a full 3d interactive device that puts the wii and xbox to shame. Its fast, very responsive and I can't wait to get my hands on one. I was discussing on some forums about the nui interface and I can't wait till it comes out. Here is a video showing you more about it

Why cheating at scrabble has risen to an all time high

Remember the good ol days when people didn't use the internet to help them make words for scrabble and other word games like words with friends. Well those days are long gone. In my previous post I talked about the rise in searches for scrabble type keywords like "Scrabble Cheat". This search has risen to 2 million in the last year alone. Its obvious when looking at the rise that it coincides with the infamous release of Words with friends on May 4th 2011. We have Zynga to thank for that. Anyways... people love to cheat and it shows, but is it really cheating? Most people would argue yes, but many others say its just "assistance".

If you are one who is against cheating at word games then let me tell you that you have your work cut out for you. You better sharpen your skills because now days there is no way to tell if the person you are playing is cheating. Unless of course you are sitting right in front of them.

I have come up with some ideas and methods you can use before you start a game of scrabble or WWF to help lower the risk of cheating.

1. Explain before you start the game that there is no use of word finders allowed.
2. If you suspect someone is cheating you can simply let them know that you would like them to stop.

In anyway getting around a cheater is going to take skill on your part. Remember those who are cheating are not going to take the time to learn strategy, they are just going to go for the highest scoring words they can find to win, but there are things you can do that they will not which can help you get ahead.

• Use as many 2 and 3 letter words as you can, you would be suprised how much they count towards your score at the end.
• Try to always place your tiles so your opponent cannot place words in the special scoring boxes (2L and 3W)
• Save your vowels for that perfect moment when you can slam the big words on them and get some seriously major points.

IMO don't worry if someone is cheating, taking the right steps in learning the strategies will help you win every time.

Why scrabble will see its highest search volume in 2012

One this is for sure, we here at Free Scrabble Dictionary know scrabble. With knowing scrabble we also know what our users want and the quality of it. Besides creating a site for users who can find many resources for scrabble there is one thing we also like to do. We like to predict the scrabble market on the internet. With the release of words with friends back in May 4th 2011 there has been an huge growth that has steadily climbed. Some of this contribution is due to the iPhone itself. As more people get iPhones one of the first apps they get is words with friends. Based on the graph below you can see the trend in search of scrabble on the net.

The keyword "scrabble cheat" is the top keyword search related to scrabble. The reason is that users want to find an anagram solver that will help them find words they can make for scrabble or words with friends.

You can see since the release of words with friends the growth has not stopped. Yes there is a drop after the holidays but scrabble related searches always have a spike in the holidays. This is due to

• The holidays people get together more
• After the holidays life gets busy and people can play as much
• The holidays contribute to new users getting smart phones and installing words with friends

The reason why there is going to be the highest search volume in the next few years is simply based on the trend you see above. With a base starting at around 2 million seaches for "scrabble cheat" right now the growth for the holidays is going to boom. If you thought words with friends and scrabble were popular now, wait for the holidays.
